The summer exhibiton 'People & Pots' marries the work of abstract figurative sculptor John Brown - now in his eighties - with wood-fired stoneware pots and seats by Chris Lewis. Large works by both artists will be exhibited in the garden, with smaller works shown in the gallery.
London artist, John Brown, is best known for his contemporary figurative sculpture which expresses emotions and relationships. The exhibition will feature some of his large bronze resins, suitable for the garden, and unique stone carvings. Private collectors of his work include Sir Elton John, Simon Cowell, Andrew Castle, and Lesley Ash.
Chris Lewis works from his pottery in East Sussex where he has been creating wood-fired pots and sculptural pieces for the garden since 1976. His pots get covered in ash and embers during the course of their three or four day firings, a method which results in beautiful surface colour and texture and which gives each piece a unique, almost archaeological character.
Showing alongside them in the gallery will be East Anglian sculptor, Neal French FRBS, including a limited-edition maquette of his current commission for Tiptree 'Fruit Picker', plus some of his concept clay sketches, and sculptural pots by Stephanie Wright and Anne-Marie Jacobs.
The exhibition opens with a special preview on Saturday 19th July, from 2.30 - 4.30pm, with strawberries and Pimms. It is then open every Saturday from 11am-4.30pm (and by appointment) until 31 August.
